Jack McShane Earns Mick Bell Award
Thursday 20th October 2016
Congratulations Jack McShane (Denistone Sports) on winning the Mick Bell Award at the 2016 Bowls NSW State Rookie Finals. The Mick Bell award recognises a player who does not reach the Semi Finals, but embodies the spirit of the Rookies. A player who "has a crack" and has an obvious joy at being out on the green playing and having fun doing so. Jack was presented the award courtesy of his being the youngest ever player to qualify for the State Rookie Finals, doing so at just 11 years of age!
Jack’s bowls career began with carpet bowls at age 4, under the guidance of Zone VP Mark Barton. He became a bowling member of Denistone Sports in 2014, joining the Zone 10 Junior Academy twelve months later. His lawn bowls development has steadily progressed since, culminating in his qualification for this year’s Rookies State Finals.
Jack’s progression to the State Finals came via way of an undefeated performance in the Zone 10 qualifiers held at West Pennant Hills, taking out the final against Doug Vail (Brush Park), 17-12. Last week-end in the State Finals played at Raymond Terrace, Jack went down 15-17 in both his 1st and 2nd round games, before defeating Troy McGregor (Zone 12) in 3rd round, 17 – 8. McGregor then went on to be crowned the 2016 State Rookies Singles Champion.

2017 Zone 10 Bowls Program
Staurday 24th September 2016
The event program for Zone 10's 2017 season has been completed and can be viewed here. Somethings to note:
- As Zone 10 participates in the Metropolitan Grade 1 Pennant Competition, we follow directly the allocation of Pennant rounds set by Bowls NSW. They have nominated Saturday 4th March as the start date, with Zone Finals to be played on Saturday 27th May.
- Zone 10 have decided to schedule only the State/Zone 4's for play prior to commencement of Pennants, so as to allow Club's the opportunity to play their Championships and have Pennant Trials. This means that, as many weekends after Pennants have National or State events allocated that take precedence over Zone Championships, the Zone Triples will not be played till late September.
- The CoCC Pairs and Singles will both be played in August at dates that correspond with playing of the NSW Rookies Pairs/Singles and State Junior 7-a-side competitions. Zone 10 has delayed close of entry into the CoCC events until Monday July 31st, to give clubs increased time to complete club qualifying for these events.
