2023-24 Rookies Pairs at NBC Sports Club

Huge congratulations to the 2023-2024 Rookie Pairs Qualifiers of Zone 10, Saturday, 14th October.

NBC’s Junior Rooster – Oscar Hide & Merrylands Magic – Sophie Payne together proved too good for their opponents, wining their section without a sweat! In their section knockout to go to State Play, Sophie & Oscar were down 2 shots to Greenlees Park – BC Gary Savvidis & Chris Landas. Oscar whom recently came 2nd in the Dundas BC Graded Turnaround Triples last month with Coach Matthew Slager & Pennant Skip Joanne McKennall, put that experience into practice & put a running shot in with his last bowl, & took out the Greenlees shots, wining the match by 1!

Greenlees Park – Dave Materazza & ‘Doc’ Dave O’Connell showed they were not to be reckoned with, wining their section with high margins & continuing their form into the section knockout against The Hills – BC Pete Glasson & Craig Mitchell. Alas Glasson & Mitchell could not stop the Greenlees duo & Dave & Doc sealed their spot to State playoffs.

NBC Roosters – ‘Reggie’ Mark Ralph & Tom McKay won their section to seal a position in the knockouts, our dream for them was outed by Castle Hills BC – Richard Rochow & Rhonda White. However Castle Hill was not quite there yet having 1 more game to go, against Merrylands Magics Junior, Regan Bunn & Sarah Woodfield. Alas the Magics could not overpower the King & Queen from Castle Hill whom sealed their spot to go to State.

To all the participants from the 12 Clubs in Zone 10, I want to express my gratitude & thanks to each of you for your patience, good manners, knowledge shared & support of me, being that it was my first time running a State event! It was a pleasure to be your host, & from how you all played today, our future for Zone 10 or Sector 15 has a bright future in the Sport of lawn bowls, & your Clubs should be very proud of you!

Again congratulations to each of the qualifiers & thank you all!
