The best junior bowls talent in Western Sydney, North Western Sydney, South Western Sydney, Central & Southern Sydney, Illawarra & Central Coast assembled at The Hills Bowling Club for the 2019 Under 25’s Inter – Zone Challenge.

The teams included Australian Representative Ellen Ryan, State Open Squad members Mason Lewis, Billy Johnston, Dawn Hayman & Natalie Noronha & State under 25’s Squad members Kyle Hansen, Greg Jeans, Emmett McLeod, Beau Prideaux, Jamie-Lee Worsnop, Luke Grainger & Zach Robertson.

This event started in 2014 with Zone 5-10-12-13-16 and was recently joined by Zone 15 to make 5 quality games in the one day. The format for the day is teams of nine (3 Bowl Pairs – 12 ends, 2 Bowl Triples 12 ends, & Fours 10 ends with a time limit of 1.20 minutes).
After three games it was evenly poised with the host Zone 10 taking a three point lead over Zone 12 but they were due to play each other in round four which would no doubt be the crunch game.

Zone 10 went into the game against Zone 12 with plenty of confidence after defeating Zone 16, 5 & 13. It was evident from the start that Zone 12 were here to play bowls and show the large crowd why they were the favorites for this event. Zone 12 got off to a flyer with the fours discipline 5-1 lead after 4 ends & the triples 9-5 after 6 ends. Zone 12 showed their dominance to win the fours & Triples disciplines and drawing in the Pairs to beat Zone 10 5-1.

In the last round Zone 12 made light work of Zone 5 to ensure they would be the 2019 Under 25’s Inter – Zone Challenge. I would like to congratulate the players and officials for the way they conducted themselves throughout the day which was a credit to their Clubs & Zones.
